The Chrysalids – Chapter 14


Plot Outline: After the attack David tries to figure out what has gone on and how.

Setting: David finds himself on a broken countryside surrounded by small trees. He then travels through the forest by horse deeper into the Fringes. He then arrives at a small fringes village.


Plot dot jots

· David thinks about his love for Rosalind and how he thinks she’s perfect

· David wakes up after the attack and is confused on what happened

· Michael explains to him that they were attacked by a group of 4 or 5 Fringes people last night and one landed right on top of him. He also finds out that they have been taken prisoner by the strange people.

· David meets an old strange man who talks and teaches him about God, Tribulation and people of the past

· They travel on horse to meet Fringes leader “hairy jack”

· David and Hairy Jack talk and David gets so upset he leaps at Hairy jack knocking him out of his stool

· David gets beat up and put back into confinement


Characters

David – David has developed as a character a lot and is more brave in this chapter as he must be to undergo Hairy Jack’s wrath. He is still confused about what happened in the past and what’s for him in the future.

Old man – David meets a very intelligent old man who speaks to him about the past. This man is not well known and goes by no name: a suspicious but friendly and helpful character.

Rosalind – David loves and admires her and her courage shines through when needed.
